Cât Tiên National Park

Took a day off the bikes to visit a national park, whilst the bears look unhappy in their cages they actually have access to 1 hectares of space to roam which is currently being expanded to 14 hecatres due to the amount of bears which are coming in. They are rescued from captivity and poachers where they use "bear bile" in Chinese medicine and pets in vile circus acts. The gibbons are actually endangered and when they are taken back from illegal owners are kept in cages so they mate and once they have are released back into the jungle to try increase the ever declining numbers of them. Even when released they stay close to the rangers as they know it's a source of food.

This time we actually stayed in Hanoi to see the sites and sample the city. Here we visited the museums, met up with Marine, bumped into Stupid James by accident,  and drank lots of extremely cheap beer. Me and Joe decided to commemorate the whole trip by getting a small tattoo. We then drove down to Cat Ba Island and had a few days exploring and then going on the famous Halong Bay tour. This guy wanted to get a guiness world record for amount of mattresses on a scooter. Stupid James

Ho Chi Minh highway north to Phong Nha

This road is loosely based on the Ho Chi Minh Trail which was a road system created by the Viet Cong during the war that enabled the army to move supplies from the north to all over the country. The original road ran through Laos and Cambodia but there are still lots of pathways coming from this which would have been used back then too. This was some isolated areas with very few other vehicles coming down, the main traffic still uses the highway one which comes down the coast line.

Normally my posts include a road trip from one point to another, but Hué was full of so much rich history and beautiful sites it needed a post of its own. The old Imperial capital, an abandoned water park, old war bunkers, nights out with some superb locals, pagodas and of course more bike repairs.
